Caliber RM
We use Caliber RM from Borland to track our requirements. Does anyone else use this tool? I find it useful if the Product Owner associates the requirements with the backlog items. What is your experiences with the tool.
I have used Caliber RM in the past, but no longer do. After Borland bought the product, the quality and support seemed to dwindle. (I used Caliber for several years -- starting at Caliber 2.0).
I now use Telelogic DOORS. It is very similar to Caliber, but has great support and some features that Caliber doesn't have. I can probably answer questions on either product.
We were using Doors and switched to CaliberRM adn DefineIt. Doors didn't have what we needed for traceability. The problem that I see with both products is that the product owners need to be consistent when writing requirements. They need a good technical writer to help them.
I've been part of a scrum development environment where I also used Caliber RM but it was a couple years ago. I recall that I wasn't totally satisfied with it but can't give you details about why.
My take on CaliberRM is that it is only as good as the Product Owner allows it to be. If he/she doesn't use the tools correctly and completely, it is a waste of time.
This is the place for technical communicators, developers, designers, and usability experts to discuss the agile scrum development environment. Tell us your success and horror stories. Please be courteous and constructive when you comment. Sincerely, Katie Technical Writer and Scrum Team Member
